My new book: “The LOVE Walk” Release & Giveaway!

The LOVE Walk

A 15 – Week Devotional on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

My devotional book “The LOVE Walk” was released yesterday on Amazon.  It was inspired by the first blog series I did on “love” as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. I created the devotional to encourage and support people in their love walk. Each devotional focuses on a different characteristic of love:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails….”

Each chapter includes an encouragement, a prayer, verses to meditate on, and one verse to memorize. Additionally, at the end of each chapter there are questions to reflect on for personal evaluation or group study.

Today, I am giving away one signed copy of “The LOVE Walkalong with a “Love” cross to put on your shelf or desk as a reminder to continually walk in God’s love.

*To enter to win you MUST leave a comment below to let me know you are entering, and then check the box on the rafflecopter to enter. After you check the box below, you can earn additional entries on the rafflecopter by “liking” my book on Amazon, and posting my book on twitter and fb. You can tweet about the giveaway, tweet the link to Amazon, and post on your fb wall every day to receive additional entries each day. CONTEST ENDS 12:01 EST 11/17/12.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Yesterday, I shared an excerpt from “The LOVE Walk” at PTL.com. Follow this link to read “Week Ten – Love…does not delight in evil” Today, I want to share chapter thirteen with you.

WEEK THIRTEEN

Love… always hopes

 ~1 Corinthians 13:7

What are you placing your hope in? Are you placing it in your job? Your bank account? Your spouse? Your children? Your appearance? Your material possessions?

To put our hope in something means we need it to make us happy. If our hope is in our jobs and we lose them, we lose our hope. If our hope is in our spouses and they leave us, our hope leaves with them. If our hope is in our beauty and it fades, our hope fades with it.

Our hope needs to be in God because He is the only one who can permanently fulfill us.

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

—Romans 5:5

God’s love never disappoints. But have you ever felt disappointed in God? I have. In the past, I would get disappointed if I trusted God to answer a prayer and He didn’t. I would get disappointed if I obeyed Him and didn’t see the right results. I would get disappointed if I was hit with a trial and He didn’t rescue me.

I thought my hope was in God, but I was often disappointed in Him. I soon realized I wasn’t placing my hope in God. I was placing it in my own expectations of Him.

When God called me to write my first book, I expected to write it and publish it right away. I was often disappointed when I was rejected by publishers and agents in the beginning. I thought if God told me to write a book He would open all the doors. It took awhile to see He was opening the doors; they just weren’t the ones I was knocking at. I wanted Him to do it my way. I didn’t like some of the doors He wanted me to go through. They often led to trials, lessons, and hard work.

Now looking back, those trials are what I needed to prepare me for what was ahead. Had all my hope been in God’s plan for me, I could have enjoyed those years of writing instead of being disappointed.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

—Romans 12:12

Thinking positive, praising God, and communing with Him keeps our hopes up. It helps us stay joyful while waiting on God to fulfill our desires.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

—Proverbs 13:12

I’ve experienced this verse many times in my life. Once was when I had to go back to work a few years after having my first child. I was devastated to go back and even tried to avoid it. I frequently asked God why He wasn’t providing for me to stay home.

As the years went by, and I had more children, I continued praying for God to help me afford to quit. I tried everything I could to stay happy and be a good employee while waiting on God to answer my request. But as time went on, I started losing hope and fell into depression. Losing hope made my heart sick.

As I clung to God, He brought me out of depression and opened the door for me to stay home. As I looked back I could see His provision was there all along. Through those years, God was working with us on our finances so we could afford one income.

God was also working in me during that time. He was teaching me to be faithful even when it hurts. He was teaching me to trust Him even when I wasn’t seeing results. He was teaching me to be happy even when there wasn’t anything going on to rejoice in.

During those years I learned valuable lessons I wouldn’t trade now for anything. More importantly, I learned my prayers were answered the moment I requested them. I just didn’t see it until after I received it.

God answers our prayers. We don’t see all the behind the scenes work He does to prepare for those answers. We have to remember His ways are far beyond ours. We only see what is in front of our eyes. God sees above and beyond. He sees the final outcome, which is why He asks us to place our hope in Him. We don’t have anything to be disappointed about when all our hope is in Him.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

—Romans 15:13

********************************************************

 Week Thirteen Love Walk: Hope

I encourage you this week to place your hope in God. Don’t focus on your outward circumstances. Face each trial with joy as you hope in Him. Cling to Him. Praise Him. And remember to be faithful even when you’re not seeing any results.

But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has?

—Romans 8:24

Prayer For The Week:

Heavenly Father,

I praise You for giving me so much to be hopeful for. I know I will never be disappointed when I am trusting You. Help me remain faithful and continue doing Your will when the devil comes against me. Thank You that through Jesus I am an overcomer. I joyfully put my hope in You, my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.

In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Scriptures To Meditate On (pick one to memorize):

Romans 8:24; Isaiah 40:31; Psalm 18:2; Romans 15:13

Week Thirteen Reflection:

  • Share how God revealed Himself to you this week as you placed your hope in Him.
  • Do you have a prayer you are waiting to see answered?
  • Don’t give up hope on your prayer. God knew what you needed before you even asked! Write a prayer praising Him that He has heard and answered your prayer according to His Word.

Monday’s Blog: Blessed Are the Meek

I started a series on the Beatitudes before the book giveaways. If you would like to read the first two messages in this series click here. This week we move on to Matthew 5:5: “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”

What does it mean to be meek? Strong’s concordance defines meek in this verse as mildness of disposition, gentleness of spirit. People often view meek as weak-willed, someone you can easily manipulate. Yet true meekness isn’t weak at all. It is power under control.

Jesus is our example of meek. He was kind and gentle, but yet forceful when He needed to be. He was gentle toward the lost—those who didn’t know God, but harsh toward the Pharisees—those who claimed to know God but didn’t have a relationship with Him.

I think we too often do the opposite. We are harsh toward the world, but we close our eyes to the sins within the body of Christ. As a result, we push the world away by our judgment, and ruin our testimony by our hypocrisy.

The Body of Christ

Paul wrote: “I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. ‘Expel the wicked man from among you’” (1 Corinthians 5:9-13).

Earlier in verse 6, Paul wrote, “Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough?”

Closing our eyes to the sins within the church contaminates the body of Christ, and hinders us from reaching the world. This is why Satan endeavors to lure us into sin. He can’t take our salvation, but he can ruin our testimony and hinder the Holy Spirit from using us to impact the world.

Does this mean we start looking at our brothers and sisters in Christ through a magnifying glass, expelling them as soon as they fall?

No. Jesus said to first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye (Matthew 7:5).

We first need to work with God in the areas that hinder our own testimony. As we allow God to sanctify us, and draw us closer to Him, He will lead us to confront and help our brothers and sisters who are caught in sin.

When it’s time to confront someone, we need to do it in meekness and love so we don’t also fall into sin. Paul states in Galatians 6:1, “Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.”

As Christians, we especially need to set high standards for those in leadership positions because those of us who teach will be judged more strictly (James 3:1). If you run a ministry, you need to confront your leaders if the Holy Spirit is showing you they are in sin. Don’t turn a blind eye, because you’ll only be inviting the enemy in to destroy your ministry and affect those you are teaching.

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

—1 Timothy 4:15-16

As we follow God’s leadership and set high standards within the body of Christ, according to the Bible, God can use us to powerfully impact the world.

If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

—2 Timothy 2:21-22

 Reaching the World

I think sometimes we get too comfortable in the church, being around other believers, that we forget we are called to reach the world.

When I first started following Christ, I attended a National Day of Prayer ceremony. I had never been to a prayer ceremony before. I was nervous to go alone, but eager to meet and fellowship with other believers.

There were probably around thirty or forty people who attended the ceremony. When the time came to pray, the leader asked everyone to break off in small groups. I turned to join the people on my right, but they turned away and made a circle with their friends. I turned to join the people on my left, but they also turned away and made a circle with their friends. I looked around to find someone to pray with, but everyone else had formed groups as well.  The event went on for awhile, but no one ever acknowledge me standing alone.

I remember thinking I hope I never get so comfortable with my Christian walk that I don’t notice the people around me. If I hadn’t already accepted Christ and tasted the Lord’s goodness, I might have left that meeting that day not wanting to be part of the Christian community.

I am sad to admit this, but through the years as I became comfortable in my Christian walk I caught myself several times doing the same thing.

Chuck Balsamo wrote in his book Make Me A Legend:

“Whenever our Christian maturity becomes a hindrance to the Great Commission of Jesus, then our apparent progress is really no progress at all. We should care more about broken people as we climb, not less. Real Christian maturity is about loving, serving, and sacrificing, not about strutting through our world with a golden crown.”

Jesus didn’t ignore the broken and lost. He didn’t wait for them to come to Him for help. He sought them. He paid careful attention to the needs around Him. His life wasn’t consumed with His personal agendas. His life was focused on God, and He was ready to act the moment the Holy Spirit showed Him a need.

Jesus was truly meek as He humbled Himself and laid His life down to serve others. For His obedience, He received the greatest reward. When we lay down our lives and walk in obedience to God and serve others, we will also reap a reward.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

—Philippians 2:5-11

****************************************************************************

**Prayer for the week**

Heavenly Father,

We praise You for teaching us Your ways. Jesus, You said to take Your yoke upon us and learn from You, for You are gentle and humble. We know that we cannot acquire meekness on our own. So help us to draw near to You and learn from You. Keep us from falling into sin so we can be Your representatives to the world to show them Your love and salvation.

In Your precious name, Amen!

Dave has graciously shared a SIGNED hardcover copy of his book to give away:

The Father’s Love

“The drive home seemed to be endless. My mind was a battleground of extremes. Ideas of what to do next to help find David seemed to constantly flood my thinking. Yet the negative side, thinking the worst of what might have happened to my son, was always occupying my mind. Though sleep was dearly needed, it was not welcomed, for even in sleep I was tormented.”

Confronting depression, fatigue, and evil, Dave Moore goes on a cross-country search for his missing son. Becoming increasingly desperate and having done all that is humanly possible without results, what will he do? Who will he turn to? In this amazing true story, you will experience Dave Moore’s anguish in going through a father’s worst nightmare—a missing child. Through his fear, Dave confronts his soul’s emptiness and learns the heavenly Father’s Love.

I have had the privilege of meeting Dave and his wonderful wife, Dorinda. We recently did a couple book signings together. His testimony in this book is amazing. I read The Father’s Love in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. There is so much you can walk away with from this book. It should be made into a movie. It was truly inspiring. You will love it!

Reading “The Book of Ruth” will help you recognize God’s sovereignty and provision in your own life.

I had the honor of reading Deborah’s book. It’s a great daily devotional. It’s not too long. It’s only 7 lessons, so you can read one a day for a week. Deborah does a remarkable job bringing to light details we often overlook in the book of Ruth that relate to the New Testament and our relationship with Christ. You will be inspired by this book!

Giveaway – Penny Zeller’s “Hailee”

Welcome back for another giveaway! It’s not too late to enter Monday and Tuesday’s giveaways! Just click on the links and post a comment on the blogs to enter to win. Monday’s giveaway was for my book and Warren Baldwin’s book. Tuesday’s giveaway was for Chuck Balsamo’s book. I am giving away a total of 7 books this week. Every day I am featuring a new author and giveaway. I will announce all 7 winners on Monday 10/31.

Today I am featuring an amazing writer with a beautiful heart for the Lord:

Penny Zeller

Penny Zeller is the author of several books and numerous magazine articles. She is also the author of the humor blog “A Day in the Life of a Wife, Mom, and Author” (www.pennyzeller.wordpress.com). She is an active volunteer in her community, serving as a women’s Bible study small-group leader and co-organizing a women’s prayer group. Penny devotes her time to assisting and nurturing women and children into a closer relationship with Christ. Her passion is to use the gift of the written word that God has given her to glorify Him and to benefit His kingdom. When she’s not writing, Penny enjoys spending time with her family and camping, hiking, canoeing, and playing volleyball.

Penny has graciously offered to give away a personalized copy of her latest novel titled:

Hailee

Hailee is the final book in the series, which began with Mckenzie and Kaydie in Montana Skies, her first series with Whitaker House.

I read the first book, Mckenzie, and I loved it! I read it in less than a week. I didn’t want to put it down. It had a great story line along with an inspiring message. I am excited to read Kaydie and  Hailee. I know you will be blessed by Penny’s books!

Here’s the trailer for Hailee:

Blurb: For years, orphan Hailee Annigan was just a ragamuffin in the Cincinnati streets, stealing food to keep her two younger brothers fed. Her thievery landed her in a home for delinquent youngsters, where her life was changed, thanks to her teachers. Now, nineteen-year-old Hailee excitedly heads to Montana to be a teacher, yet she’s still plagued by her shameful past and the fear of never seeing her brothers again.

Based on his upbringing in high-society Boston, no one would have guessed that Nate Adams would attend seminary and become a church pastor in rugged Montana. Even now, Nate’s parents refuse to put aside their own plans for his future and accept his calling.

When their paths converge, an immediate attraction draws Hailee and Nate together, even as the pressures and demands of others pull them apart. Can the unlikely pair come to terms with their pasts and face the future together?

Here’s an interview with Penny to help those inspiring to write:

How long does it take you to complete a novel? This is a great question! Actually, it really varies. Sometimes it can be as little as two months and sometimes as long as five or six months. I think my average would be about three months for the first draft. However, I give my books and my writing to the Lord, so I’m learning to write on His schedule.

What advice would you give to a fledgling author? I offer several writing helps on my blog, at http://pennyzeller.wordpress.com/sticking-with-writing/ , including how to stick with writing and information about how to prepare for a writer’s conference.

I am humbled how the Lord has placed me in a mentoring position for new writers through a Writer’s Bible Study.  When I chat with a fledgling author, I ask what he/she envisions themselves doing for God’s Kingdom and how can I pray and encourage him/her in that pursuit. One of the most important things to remember in being a writer is that if God has called you to write, He will guide you, one step at a time.

In November of 2000, I gave my writing to the Lord. I quit my fulltime job with a social services governmental agency so I could stay home with my infant daughter. That was the start of my career, beginning with magazine articles. I would advise a new writer to give his/her writing to the Lord and to not give up! I speak from experience when I say that when He closes one door, He opens another (much better) one.

Make Me a Legend predicts the rise of an emergent legend tribe. More than a prediction, it’s a “save the world” manual for today—and the invitation of lifetime!

He studied people’s dreams and forecasted their biggest obstacles, and then sealed his imperative lessons in Make Me a Legend. If you follow Chuck’s fearless lead, you will dream bigger, live bolder, and make a large and lasting difference—your legendary life will echo in eternity, whether your days are few or many!

In this “save the world” manual, you will become empowered beyond your wildest expectations as you learn to:

  • Clarify your God-sized dream.
  • Build your extravagant foundation.

Anniversary Celebration – Book Giveaways!

One year ago today, I posted my first blog on this website. I was scared to death. I didn’t know a thing about blogging. I had no clue what I would talk about each week. And I wasn’t sure anyone would even read my blogs.

I decided to take a leap of faith and rely heavily on the grace of God to empower me. And here I am, blogging strong one year later. It never ceases to amaze me how God provides each message I post. He never leaves me without a word.

It also amazes me how God teaches me from every message I post. I believe God teaches us while using us to minister to others so we can’t say it comes from our wisdom. All the glory goes to God.

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

—2 Corinthians 3:5

But the greatest blessing God has brought me from blogging is all of you—my readers!

The divine friendships I have made during the last year I wouldn’t trade for the world. You have brought me so much joy. I am grateful for all the encouragements I have received from your comments and messages. You motivated me to press on when it got tough, and to continue fearlessly sharing God’s Word.

To thank you for the blessings you have given me, I want to bless you in return.

With the help of my wonderful fellow bloggers, I am giving away 7 inspiring books this week!! Every day from now through Saturday, I will be featuring a different author and giveaway.

I will announce all seven winners in next Monday’s blog (10/31) when I continue our Beatitude series with “Blessed Are the Meek.” If you’ve missed the first two messages in this series, click on “Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit,” and “Blessed Are Those Who Mourn.”
