My Testimony

By: Deborah H. Bateman

My name is Deborah Bateman. I was raised in church and was saved at an early age. I was baptized when I was about six years old, but then as a teenager, I became unsure of my salvation. I could remember being baptized, but I didn’t remember the conversion experience.

I told my pastor what was going on and he prayed with me and I asked Jesus to come into my heart and to forgive me of my sins, so that I could be sure of my salvation. My faith in God has always been a big part of my life. It is my faith and confidence in God that has helped me get through all the trials of my life. My life verse is: Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose

Shortly after I made sure of my salvation I started praying for a Christian husband, even though I was much too young to get married.  I actually dated my husband for the first time when I was sixteen and he was twenty. I was too young and immature so we just had one date and that was it. About two years later, he called me, we started dating, and six months later, we got married. Things have not always been easy, but with our love for each other, our faith in God and our determination to stay together we have now been married for soon to be thirty-seven years.

We had only been married for a few months when we decided we wanted to have children, but that was not God’s plan for us at the time. We had two miscarriages, then finally when we had been married almost eight years God blessed us with our first daughter, then four years later he blessed us with our youngest daughter. They are both grown now and God has blessed us with five grandchildren.

Several years ago while standing on the side of a mountain and looking into a valley it was if God said to me in my spirit imagine all those trees in the valley as people. They were different sizes, shapes and colors and there were so many of them that the valley was full.  Those trees represent the number of people you are going to touch in your life. At first I was like what, are you kidding me? I didn’t know how or what God had in mind. Every time we would go on trips and be riding down the interstate where you see nothing but trees I was reminded of that day on the side of the mountain and the impression I was given.

I had a career at BellSouth for twenty two years and I thought that was going to be my job until I had thirty years service or so and then I would retire and travel the world. That was my plan. You know plans are made to be changed and God had a different plan. I lost my job due to a surplus situation in 2002. I was devastated. I tried to find another job, but it just has never worked out.

Through that experience I learned that God was my provider and he could provide for me any way he wanted to. He gave my husband another job making more money and has provided for us ever since.  This scripture became a reality to me: Philippians 4:19 KJV-But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

I have been home since then, doing different things. I helped with my Mom while she was sick. I keep three of my grandchildren. I have done some volunteer work at a women’s shelter. I have helped with mission projects through our Women on Mission group at church. I have participated in some Bible studies at our church.

A year or two ago someone got me started on Facebook. I started just playing games and connecting with my friends, family and church members. I started sharing Bible verses in my status as a way of encouraging people.

In September 2010, my husband told me about a Christian internet training program that he had heard about on the radio. Through that program, I was able to create a website and several blogs. I feel that God has had His hand on me for a long time and wanted me to do something for Him, but I didn’t know what or how. I still don’t know everything He has in mind for my future, but I am willing to follow Him where ever He leads me.

The website Christian Daily Resources was built to share scripture, Christian Music, Christian Poems, Christian Prayers, etc. with people and it is a place for them to purchase their Christian Resource needs.  The blog Daily-Bible-Reading was built to share scripture with people and has developed into a Bible study blog. I like studying the Bible and sharing what I learn with others, so that is how it came about.  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 KJV.

Bible Verse Tweet is a Bible Verse blog dedicated to “Sharing God’s Word” through Bible Verses. I post a Daily Bible Verse each day on Bible Verse Tweet on different topics.

Recipe for Life is a blog where I share some of my family favorite recipes with people. The name for that blog came from the scripture:  Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father, but by me. John 14:6 KJV.

My prayer is that God would lead me in the direction that He wants me to go and that I would not get in the way. I would love to have you join me as I study the Bible and share it. I ask that you remember me in prayer that God would lead me and that I would follow. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

My prayer for you is that you would have God’s direction in your life and that He would provide all your needs. I also pray that you would continue to learn and grow in your relationship with Him as you study the Bible. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  2Timothy 2:15 KJV

Don’t regret that Bellsouth surplussed you in 2002 as I was also surplussed then although I was only demoted and not let go. I am still with them ( AT&T now ) but I am not sure for how much longer as God is leading in other directions. He will always provide a way even if we cannot see every stepping stone that He would use. God bless and may you have a wonderful week.
