Monday’s Blog: Christmas Day – Behind the Scenes

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ!

Last week I talked about the inheritance Christ came to give us. This week I want to focus on what took place in the spiritual realm at His birth.

I had a dream recently where random people were being attacked, but no one could see what was attacking them. I was with a group trying to figure out what was happening when we stumbled upon a pair of red glasses. One of the men in our group picked up the glasses, put them on and suddenly shook in terror. He quickly ripped off the glasses and destroyed them before dying from shock.

Because it was my dream, I could see what he saw when he looked through the red glasses. There were dragon-like creatures all around us attacking people and things. There was an unseen battle taking place, but it was only visible through the red glasses.

After I awoke from the dream, I didn’t think much of it until I opened the book of Revelation in my morning study. I don’t normally read Revelation because it’s hard to understand. But somehow I ended up on Revelation 12 that morning.

A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.

Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born.

She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.

And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.”

When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent’s reach.

Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.

Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring—those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

—Revelation 12:1-17

There are a lot of different interpretations out there on this chapter. I’m not going to try and decipher which interpretation is true. I’ll leave that to God. But there are some obvious truths we can take away from these verses.

Some argue when exactly God cast the devil and his angels to earth. I believe it at happened at the same time God sent Jesus to the earth to save us and give us victory over them. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

But even if I am wrong. I don’t think it matters. The real truth is that Satan was cast to earth. So we can’t ignore that he is here, deceiving and destroying people. In my dream, the only way we could see the dragons were through the red glasses. The only way we can see into the spiritual world is through the blood of Jesus.

We need to wake up, put on our spiritual glasses and set others free from Satan’s deception. We can’t keep our blinders on allowing him to destroy those around us. If we do, we will be like the man in my dream who destroyed the glasses because he didn’t want to see the truth, and it ended up destroying him.

THE SPIRIT of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound.

—Isaiah 61:1

My deepest passion in ministry has been not only to share God’s truths, but to share the reasons behind God’s truths. God’s commands are for our benefit, to outwit Satan. God gave us His Holy Word to equip us to overcome everything the devil throws at us.  Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).

What will the truth set us free from? The truth will open our eyes to the spiritual world and set us free from deception. If we know the Truth, we can’t be deceived. Satan can’t deceive us when our eyes are open and we can see what he is doing.

Don’t be afraid of the spiritual realm. Put on Jesus and send the devil fleeing!

Prayer for the week

Heavenly Father,

Praise You for sending Jesus to protect us from ALL the fiery darts Satan and his angels throw at us. Help us to be in Your Word daily, and stay connected to You, so we can be equipped to tear down the strongholds Satan has built in our lives and the lives of others. We Praise You for giving us victory in Christ Jesus.

In Jesus’s precious name, Amen!

To stand above deception, always check what you learn from others, and stay in God’s Word daily as the Bereans did in Acts 17:11.

“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
