Monday’s Blog: “Envy” by Warren Baldwin + BOOK GIVEAWAY!!

I am giving away Warren Baldwin’s book titled “Roaring Lions, Cracking Rocks and Other Gems from Proverbs.”

I will be giving away TWO copies!

TO ENTER, pick any verse from Proverbs and post it in the comment section below by Sunday (8/21). Or post the Proverb on my Facebook page. I will be announcing the winner in next Monday’s blog.

*SORRY, I AM ONLY ABLE TO SHIP WITHIN THE U.S.*

*Here is a sample chapter from his book on Proverbs 14:30:

  ENVY

A heart at peace gives life to the body,

but envy rots the bones.

 —Proverbs 14:30

The first part of this verse is calming and soothing. A heart or mind that is happy and contented, filled with good thoughts and intentions, rooted in God and home is a mind that is at peace. This man can lay his head comfortably on his pillow at night, knowing his priorities are in order, his emotions and behaviors under control, and his life healthy and happy. He is at peace.

Not so the envious man. The envious man is diseased, stricken with a condition that “rots” his bones. He is afflicted with attitudes that attack his spirit. His peace of mind is upset. His emotions are raging and his behavior malicious. His life is in disorder. He is corrupting and dying from within.

What is envy? Envy is the desire for what another person has. It may be the desire for another’s good looks, car, bank account, position in life, or family. Envy is what we feel when we look at who we are and what we have, compare it with another person’s, and become very dissatisfied with our lot. “Why can’t I have his or her good looks? Why can’t I drive a car like that? Why can’t I have their money? Why can’t my family be happy like their family is?”

This comparison displays a lack of gratitude for how God has blessed us. A lack of gratitude makes us hungry for more. When we see that someone has more, we want what they have. That is envy. Envy left unchecked can develop into an angry and vicious disposition.

Envy starts out as an attitude but then works itself out in despicable, unholy behaviors. One girl threw acid in the face of a prettier girl. That is envy. A skater hired hit men to injure another skater and bump her from the Olympic team. That is envy. A teenager ran a key down the side of a classmate s new car. That is envy. Envy is even associated with the crime of arson. The arsonist reasons, “Why should you have a nicer house than I do?” He watches the hard work, possessions, and dreams of a family go up in smoke, and he smiles inside.

Envy can become so intense that it will be satisfied with nothing short of the death of the one envied. Why do you think Cain killed Abel? Envy not only says, “I want what you have!” It also says, “If I can’t have what you have, I’ll see to it that you don’t have it either! I’ll destroy what you have and who you are!” Hence the scarring of a pretty girl’s face, the skater’s damaged knee, the scratch on the car, the torched house, and the lifeless body of a brother.

Envy can be more subtle than these violent behaviors. Envy can manifest itself in violent speech. Think about what motivates gossip. Who benefits from it? It is not the one being gossiped about. The only one who can possibly benefit from gossip is the one doing the talking. The gossiper tries to undermine a coworker so he has a better chance for the promotion. Or he may simply want to tear down the reputation of the one being reviled. Gossip is a subtler form of killing the one we envy.

“There is no gratification for envy, nothing it can ever enjoy. Its appetite never ceases, yet its only satisfaction is endless self-torment” (Henry Fairlie, quoted in Successful Investing in an Age of Envy [Ft. Worth: Steadman Press, 1981], by Gary North, p. 6). You can see why “envy rots the bones.”

Envy cannot be satisfied, but thankfully, envy does not have to be left untreated. If envy is a lack of gratitude, then envy can be countered with gratitude. One of our greatest weapons in the spiritual arsenal God has given us is the ability to say, “God thank you for everything you have blessed me with! Please keep me grateful!” That is an important step in overcoming envy.

Bio on Warren:

I live in Ulysses, KS. My wife and I have ministered with a church here for ten years. Prior to moving to Ulysses we lived in Cody, Wyoming for 9 ½ years and Marianna, FL for 8 ½ years.

Cheryl and I have three children: Wes, a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University and currently a youth minister in Cheyenne, Wyoming; Jenny, a senior at Harding University in Searcy, AR majoring in elementary education; Kristin, a junior in high school who loves playing golf, basketball and softball.

I attended Freed-Hardeman University, Harding Graduate School of Religion and Abilene Christian University. In addition to preaching I teach as an adjunct professor for Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS and Harding University in Searcy, AR. I teach religion, history and philosophy courses.

About the Book:

For over two thousand years the book of Proverbs has provided wise counsel and spiritual direction for God’s people. The piercing truths of Proverbs penetrate the readers’ hearts, challenging them to align their lives with the wisdom the proverbs proclaim.

Roaring Lions, Cracking Rocks and other Gems from Proverbs bring these ancient sayings into contemporary focus by applying their insights to modern situations. Marriage, parenting, friendship, work, money and other topics are brought under the scrutiny of this ancient wisdom. Each chapter in this thought-provoking book is a short essay on a specific proverb that makes God’s Word come alive with fresh relevance. You’ll be amazed what a roaring lion or cracking rock can mean for your life today.

Roaring Lions, Cracking Rocks and Other Gems from Proverbs is a collection of essays based on 118 proverbs. Many people like reading the book of Proverbs in the Old Testament because it is so rich with advice and direction for life. But Proverbs is more than a book loaded with advice. Proverbs is a book about wisdom. Wisdom in Proverbs is not about getting A’s on school work or knowing how to answer all the questions on a tv game show. Wisdom in Proverbs is about knowing how to navigate life.

Topics dealt with in the book include marriage, parenting, responsibility, relationships and more. Some specific titles are:

– A Good Wife

– A Wife from the Lord

– Honesty and a Kiss

– Parenting Heritage

– What A Father Does

– Rod of Correction

– Pampering Children

– Challenge to Character

– Stingrays

– Self-control

– Debt Slavery and Freedom

– Straying from Home

– Integrity

– Rebuke

– Roaring Lions

– Gossip

– Pride

– Sexual Ethics

– Craftiness

– Envy

– Bitterness

– One Easily Angered and many more.

Roaring Lions, Cracking Rocks is 201 pages long. The chapters are short, about 600 words, so they can be read in about 5 minutes. Some of the essays are devotional in nature, some tell a story, some teach, and many of them are reflections upon the proverb and how it intersects, conflicts or impresses itself upon life, often times my own. I try to ‘engage’ the proverb, which is what I believe the author intended for us to do.

*DON’T FORGET To leave your favorite verse from Proverbs in the comment section below or on my blog’s Facebook page by Sunday (8/21)!!

My favorite proverb is Proverbs 15:1, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Monday’s Guest Blog: Mark Hunter

This is the last week of guest bloggers. I want to thank all who contributed. Your testimonies and messages were greatly inspiring!

I will be back next Monday starting a new series on “The Armor of God.” Be sure to check it out!

Today’s guest blog is by Mark Hunter. He’s a fellow blogger and former atheist. I know you’ll be blessed by his testimony!

How dramatically life can change

Two years ago I was living in absolute hell. Trapped in a loveless marriage devoid on emotion, finances crushing me to death, falling into deep clinical depression and with no discernable future on the horizon. I am ashamed to admit that I had contemplated suicide on more than one occasion. I always convinced myself that had I not been a real coward I would have probably gone through with such a stupid idea. The only light in all the darkness around me were my children. Innocent, loving, happy and thankfully mostly oblivious to the maelstrom in my life.

Snap to one year ago I was in a far better place already. I had separated thankfully, despite the severe emotional trauma, and I wasn’t completely cured of my depression but I had accepted Christ by then as my personal savior and life was definitely improving in measured amounts. I had also only just returned from visiting my Girlfriend for the first time in the Philippines. I was also just about to embark on reading the Bible at that time. My experiences in that country, the attitude of my Girlfriend, and a natural curiosity drove me to reading the Bible and becoming what I would consider to be a real Christian.

Now I am completely turned around from who I was even one year ago. Depression has been completely and thoroughly eliminated solely through my total faith in God through Jesus. I still admit that I struggle from time to time with being completely virtuous but I am very close to being that kind of man. I’ve begun to share my faith with believers and unbelievers alike. My outlook is thoroughly and completely positive. My faith drives my life now and is taking me to new heights. I’ve been to the Philippines now three times in total and am planning my marriage next year, this time taking my vows in front of God. Life couldn’t be much better right now to be honest and it’s all thanks to my faith.

My message to readers is: embrace God and live to please Him. You are never, ever, ever beyond redemption. Never beyond His reach, His love or His forgiveness. I had spent years shamefully denying Him and embracing atheism. Even after such denial and abuse he remained with His hand outstretched waiting for me to do the same. The one time I tentatively reached out, on the real brink of suicide, He showed me that He is there. He rescued me from the prison of my life. No other person, thing or power on earth or above is capable of doing what He can do. I am truly excited about my future under his rule. How about you?

Monday’s Guest Blog: Melissa Divelbiss

Made in the Shade

This year, my boys and I are planning to convert our underused sandbox into a raised vegetable or flower garden. I’ve been doing some research on what to plant and came across some interesting information about rhubarb.

According to several websites, rhubarb is a very winter hardy, drought resistant perennial. The quality of the crop depends on several factors. It will thrive in cooler temperatures and requires manure. Lots and lots of manure. But according to some farmers, the very best yields come from plants forced, indoors, in cool, dark environments. I found out that rhubarb grown for personal use might grow to about a foot in length, at most. But rhubarb cultivated in dark, damp spaces, like cellars, can reach two or three feet in height. It is this growing method that is favored by farms that grow it for commercial purposes.

So what’s the point? The point is that God seems to favor this method as well. Men like Joseph understood that. The favored son of Jacob had a bright future ahead. His God given dreams revealed he would be a great leader, even having authority over  his older brothers. But at times, his dreams must have seemed more like nightmares having been sold into slavery, accused of assaulting his employer’s wife, thrown into prison, and forgotten by the fellow inmate he had encouraged in that cell. (Genesis 37-47)

David was just a young shepherd boy when he was chosen by God to be the next king of Israel. But his days on the throne were preempted by many days of serving his half crazed predecessor. He too found himself in the darkest places, constantly on the run from Saul, reduced to hiding like an animal from this man obsessed with killing him.
(1 Samuel 16-2 Samuel 2)

Even for Christ Himself, it was 30 years before He was thrust into His divine spotlight. And though much of that time was filled with signs and miracles, it was also filled with loss of privacy, angry crowds, and eventually death.

2 Peter 1:3-7 says:

”…seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. Now for this reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.”

God sized callings require a spiritual maturity that is often forged in dark, unseen places. Our trials and tests, like fertilizer, are often smelly, dirty things, but they shape our character to fit the mold of who God intends for us to be. They can produce results in our lives that not only benefit us but others as well. But most importantly, when committed into His hands, they become something beautiful and God honoring which is always the primary intent of anything assigned by God.

”For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2Peter 1:8)

To the man or woman of God who finds themselves in a dark place today, be encouraged. God has not forgotten His plans for you.

”He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

Great deeds may be accomplished in the light. But it is great character, sown in the darkness, that guarantees a yield that is beneficial to many and glorifying to God. Bloom where you’re planted.

Melissa Divelbiss is married and the mother of two very busy boys, ages 6 and 11. She is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ and is the author of Filia Dei*, Daughter of God www.honeybeefiliadei.blogspot.com, a devotional blog started in the summer of 2010. Her “life verse” is John 10:10. 🙂

Note: Thank you, Melissa! What an encouraging message! Don’t despise our trials, rejoice that God is working something beautiful in us.

Monday’s Guest Blog: Ashley Ormon

A Higher Calling

We tend to get so caught up by what’s around us. Media, associates, and even strangers are constantly influencing us. But what happens when we don’t succumb to those influences? We become different and discover that we don’t belong among the rest.

In Jeremiah 1:5 God tells us that He has “set us apart”. He has called us to be unique and different than those surrounding us. If you ever questioned why you don’t belong, why your ideas and thoughts are different than others, and why you never seem to fit in, this is the reason. God has predestined you to a higher calling. He does not want you to be among the lost and be molded by others.

Consider this: imagine that you are a painter. You have an idea for a beautiful painting and start mixing colors, put time and effort into it, but don’t complete it. Because you cherish your artwork, you set it aside from anyone who may destroy it or begin painting on your canvas. With God, it is the same way.  You are His canvas. He loves you so much that He has set you aside so that no one may finish His painting. He has a beautiful vision in mind for you and He wants to be the only person who completes you.

In times that you feel like you don’t belong, don’t worry. Remember that God set apart Moses, who later delivered the Hebrews out of slavery. Recall the time that Noah, who was set apart, was ridiculed as he built the boat that later saved his family from the floods. Read about Joseph, who was so different from his brothers that they sold him into slavery and he later became a king.  Lastly, think about Jesus, who committed no harm, yet was hated by many because God set him apart.

In order to fulfill your calling and be victorious you must walk in the separation God has placed you in. Know that you’re not “weird” or “abnormal” than the rest. You are different because God has placed aside His painting so that in the end, you can be His completed masterpiece.

Ashley Ormon loves using her gifts and talents to help others. If you would like to learn more about walking in the separation God has called you to and developing your relationship with Him, visit her site Proverbs & Wisdom, follow her on Facebook, or tweet her @proverbsNwisdom! Here she writes to encourage, empower, and enlighten all who are seeking wisdom.

Note: Thank you Ashley for the great message! It’s like Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” NLT

Monday’s Guest Blog: Deborah Bateman

My Testimony

By: Deborah H. Bateman

My name is Deborah Bateman. I was raised in church and was saved at an early age. I was baptized when I was about six years old, but then as a teenager, I became unsure of my salvation. I could remember being baptized, but I didn’t remember the conversion experience.

I told my pastor what was going on and he prayed with me and I asked Jesus to come into my heart and to forgive me of my sins, so that I could be sure of my salvation. My faith in God has always been a big part of my life. It is my faith and confidence in God that has helped me get through all the trials of my life. My life verse is: Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose

Shortly after I made sure of my salvation I started praying for a Christian husband, even though I was much too young to get married.  I actually dated my husband for the first time when I was sixteen and he was twenty. I was too young and immature so we just had one date and that was it. About two years later, he called me, we started dating, and six months later, we got married. Things have not always been easy, but with our love for each other, our faith in God and our determination to stay together we have now been married for soon to be thirty-seven years.

We had only been married for a few months when we decided we wanted to have children, but that was not God’s plan for us at the time. We had two miscarriages, then finally when we had been married almost eight years God blessed us with our first daughter, then four years later he blessed us with our youngest daughter. They are both grown now and God has blessed us with five grandchildren.

Several years ago while standing on the side of a mountain and looking into a valley it was if God said to me in my spirit imagine all those trees in the valley as people. They were different sizes, shapes and colors and there were so many of them that the valley was full.  Those trees represent the number of people you are going to touch in your life. At first I was like what, are you kidding me? I didn’t know how or what God had in mind. Every time we would go on trips and be riding down the interstate where you see nothing but trees I was reminded of that day on the side of the mountain and the impression I was given.

I had a career at BellSouth for twenty two years and I thought that was going to be my job until I had thirty years service or so and then I would retire and travel the world. That was my plan. You know plans are made to be changed and God had a different plan. I lost my job due to a surplus situation in 2002. I was devastated. I tried to find another job, but it just has never worked out.

Through that experience I learned that God was my provider and he could provide for me any way he wanted to. He gave my husband another job making more money and has provided for us ever since.  This scripture became a reality to me: Philippians 4:19 KJV-But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

I have been home since then, doing different things. I helped with my Mom while she was sick. I keep three of my grandchildren. I have done some volunteer work at a women’s shelter. I have helped with mission projects through our Women on Mission group at church. I have participated in some Bible studies at our church.

A year or two ago someone got me started on Facebook. I started just playing games and connecting with my friends, family and church members. I started sharing Bible verses in my status as a way of encouraging people.

In September 2010, my husband told me about a Christian internet training program that he had heard about on the radio. Through that program, I was able to create a website and several blogs. I feel that God has had His hand on me for a long time and wanted me to do something for Him, but I didn’t know what or how. I still don’t know everything He has in mind for my future, but I am willing to follow Him where ever He leads me.

The website Christian Daily Resources was built to share scripture, Christian Music, Christian Poems, Christian Prayers, etc. with people and it is a place for them to purchase their Christian Resource needs.  The blog Daily-Bible-Reading was built to share scripture with people and has developed into a Bible study blog. I like studying the Bible and sharing what I learn with others, so that is how it came about.  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 KJV.

Bible Verse Tweet is a Bible Verse blog dedicated to “Sharing God’s Word” through Bible Verses. I post a Daily Bible Verse each day on Bible Verse Tweet on different topics.

Recipe for Life is a blog where I share some of my family favorite recipes with people. The name for that blog came from the scripture:  Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father, but by me. John 14:6 KJV.

My prayer is that God would lead me in the direction that He wants me to go and that I would not get in the way. I would love to have you join me as I study the Bible and share it. I ask that you remember me in prayer that God would lead me and that I would follow. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

My prayer for you is that you would have God’s direction in your life and that He would provide all your needs. I also pray that you would continue to learn and grow in your relationship with Him as you study the Bible. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  2Timothy 2:15 KJV

Monday’s Guest Blog: Boe Parrish

Is There a God?

Maybe you’ve never considered whether or not there is a God. Possibly you were one who just knew from infancy that God was real, and never considered that the reality of God was ever in doubt. You also might be someone who at some point did believe there was a God, but due to some traumatic event, decided there is no way a God would ever allow that event to happen, therefore, your belief in God has melted away. One final option may be where you are, that you do not believe there is, or has ever been a God. I wanted to share my thoughts about the reality of God for me personally because a friend recently asked me this question.

I have come to the realization of God; because of some friends that I was playing baseball with who were living a different lifestyle that attracted me. It was the summer of 1971, and my family had just moved to Oklahoma from Western Kentucky. Once again, my dad had chosen to leave our current home and move for a better job opportunity. We had just settled in, when I discovered many of the guys on my new baseball team were so excited about going to a place called Falls Creek. That was all they were talking about for weeks leading up to the event. Their description of this summer-time event was, it’s a place where guys and girls connect, and there is a huge softball tournament with seventy-two teams entered. My two passions: girls and baseball, what could possibly be better than that! I should’ve been suspicious when we had to get on a church bus to get there, but oh well, what the heck.

Sure enough, there were thousands and thousands of girls and plenty of opportunities to play ball. However, there was something different about this place. Every evening we all had to attend a church service type- of-thing. The talks were amazing to say the least, and I found myself captivated by the speaker named Charlie Graves. On Thursday evening, Charlie spoke about baseball for crying out loud. It was an amazing talk where he had woven the story of God, and how much he loves us, into a baseball talk. I remember thinking later that God customized this wonderful story of redemption into a format that was just perfect for me.

I was so captivated by the talk that I was moved to surrender my life to this Jesus, I had just heard about for the very first time. There was such a sense of the presence of God there at that moment, I knew immediately that something supernatural had just occurred. I felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders. I think I may have been the kid in the cabin that year that everyone was praying for. Little did I know then, how much that single decision would completely change the course of my life. Literally, everything about me and my family would be different in a matter of a couple of years. The first thing I did was buy a Bible, because I didn’t have one, and had never even heard of the Bible. Once I bought one and began reading it, I was hooked for life. I just couldn’t believe all the promises that were in there for me! I began reading, and completely read the book from cover to cover three times the first year I came to know Jesus.

All of a sudden I began to see God everywhere in everything. The clouds, the sunrises, sunsets, fall leaves, mountains, streams, forests, people, everywhere! How could I have not seen the handiwork of God before now? How could I even draw a breath of air without him? I so hungered to understand and know more about this amazing God I had just discovered? Then, like a ton of bricks, it hit me. My family didn’t have a clue about this rich treasure I had discovered. They didn’t know about the Bible; they had no knowledge about heaven or hell, much less about church. I had to get them to believe in God, but I had no idea how to begin to make that happen. Then my friend Loretta shared another promise with me. Acts 16:31 states, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household, meaning everyone in your family. So, for the next two and a half years I prayed for my parents and brother and sister to come to know him, and give their lives to him. By March of my senior year in high school, my whole family had received Jesus into their hearts. As a result of this change in our family, over sixty of my extended family members also received Christ because of my parents’ new-found faith. He so drastically changed my dysfunctional family and gave our lives meaning and purpose, how could I not serve him all the days of my life.

Next, he led me to the college where I would meet the girl of my dreams, and begin shaping my future forever. Through what I would describe as divine events, he allowed me to cross paths with what would become my life partner, wife, lover and friend. I looked into the blue eyes of this beautiful red headed girl and knew in an instant, she was going to be my wife and lifetime companion. After marrying my bride and finishing school, the Lord brought us three beautiful daughters and a vision for using our lives to serve others while we are on this planet. There have been numerous challenges over the years with health, relationships, wealth, career, and certainly marriage, but through it all God has performed so many miracles it is hard to recant all of them.

I have now walked with God for forty years. I’ve learned so much and yet still feel like I know nothing about him. But I do know that he has never let me down even one time, and I let him down daily. It isn’t because I want to, but because my spirit is willing, but my flesh is weak. God has transformed me and my family with the power that only comes from on high! There have been financial miracles, healings, victories over weaknesses, revelation of his nature given and most importantly, he placed his very own Spirit within me so I can hear his voice, which is softer than a whisper and wiser than the wisest man to ever walk this earth. His power, presence and purpose all reside within me. His Spirit teaches me about himself with such clarity that is hard for me to fathom it all. I see him everywhere, I hear his voice, I feel his presence, I marvel at his Word and I’ve received a thousand blessings from his people.

Every fiber of my being declares there is a God who loves me, and knows my very name, and even knows the number of hairs on my head. I can’t help but tell others about the eternal greatness of my God. He is the God of gods, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, and Prince of peace. He is absolutely everything to me! YES, there is a GOD!

Monday’s Guest Blog: Luther Stapleton

As a Father of three very active little boys I just wanted to take a minute and try to explain with meager words a view of the world through a boy’s eyes that I as a Father had forgotten but have come to once again appreciate. There is nothing that can replace the enthusiasm, energy, and heartfelt joy that these little ones embrace the World around them with. They see everything as new and exciting and wake every morning with a zest for life that we as adults have often lost. God has placed within them an outlook on life that we should all retain or strive to recapture and with a view of our Father in Heaven that entails a childlike dependence on someone greater than themselves. I pray that God will once again enliven our spirits and bless us with the faith of the children around us.

Every tree is able to be climbed and those just out of reach branches are oh so tantalizing.

Dirt is a commodity to be prized and must be carried in pockets, inside shoes, and every crevice God created on the little boys body.

All of God’s creatures want to be caught, trapped, investigated, and shown off to moms, sisters, and various little girls whose screams are almost as valuable as dirt.

Pirates are cool and walk with peg legs, say shiver me timbers, and have buried treasure hidden throughout my backyard.

Aliens are both extremely real and engaging, animals talk, and life must be lived moment to moment with barely a breath taken between adventures.

Boxes, swings, seat cushions, and a multitude of other items serve as space vessels, pirate ships, or vast castles worthy of Arthurian Legend.

Little boys love their mommies even when the say they don’t. A mother’s tender touch can heal all hurts, mend all wounds, and ease all fears.

They will emulate the men in their lives and (only by the grace of God we are worth emulating ) one day will become one. Daddies are strong, fearless, able to leap tall buildings in single bounds, and know everything from how to fix the mower to gluing Buzz Lightyear’s leg back on.

Little boys are special and they need to be allowed to be little boys. Energetic, inquisitive, and rambunctious they are created in God’s image and deserve to be who they are while being shaped by loving discipline and guidance.

Pray for all the little boys in this world because one day they will become men with little boys of their own.

I am a proud Daddy of three such little boys.

Luther is a Christian, Husband, and Father learning to live in the Grace that God has provided.  His blog, Living In Grace, is about the freedom He has found in Christ by becoming His servant.  He uses the Word to explore his faith while trying to educate fellow believers, edify the Body of Christ, and Glorify God.

Note: I can relate to this post, because God’s also used my children to teach me childlike dependence. My kids believe and trust everything we tell them. They are extremely forgiving. They don’t hold grudges. They don’t stress out or worry we won’t provide for them. They adore us. They look up to us. They want to spend every waking moment with us. And most importantly, they love us unconditionally.

Thank you Luther for reminding us to humble ourselves like a child and be dependent on God.  “Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4

Monday’s Guest Blog: Steve Sawyer

For the next seven weeks I will be posting guest blogs for my Monday blogs. I’ll be starting a new series June 27th on the “Armor Of God.” Thanks to guest blogger “Boe Parrish” for recommending the series!

Today’s guest blog is by Steve Sawyer. He’s a great friend and fellow blogger. I know you’ll be blessed!

The Peace Jesus Brings

Every Miss America hopeful since the contest began tells the world her goal in life is to see world peace.  That phrase is an oxymoron, like congressional ethics, or freezer burn. The two are mutually exclusive.

Jesus says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.

The key phrase in that verse is: “in me.”  Real, abiding peace is in Jesus Christ alone.

Peace is one of the most desirable feelings, yet one of the most illusive today in our culture.

The world calls peace a weekend away from the kids, or a vacation on the beach, or a holiday from work. The world’s peace is temporary, and as soon as it arrives it’s gone.  As soon as the world gets to a point when it can catch its breath, something or someone comes along to jerk the world back into reality and chaos, where peace escapes again.

On the contrary Jesus teaches us that lasting peace is in Him.  In several other passages of Scripture He encourages us how to enjoy peace in Him. When Jesus came into the midst of His disciples in the Upper Room after His resurrection He didn’t say, “Okay, let’s go for it. Everything’s working. This is our time.” Instead Jesus said, “Peace be with you.”  The important thing to Jesus seemed to be to assure His disciples that they had nothing to worry about and they could take comfort in His presence.

For those disciples (and for us today) we can know that in the peace of Jesus we can enjoy a freedom beyond our anxiety, a confidence beyond our circumstances, and an assurance beyond our questions.

When storms rock our world we can choose to either have the peace of Jesus in and through our circumstances, or we can choose to be in bondage to our circumstances and fail to find the path to Jesus or His peace.

To have and to maintain the peace of God that passes all understanding we need to understand sacrifice is a way of life — Those who are true followers of Christ must lay down our lives in service to others and others must become more important than us.

“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” John 16:33.  The cross is a point of reference in our tribulations.  We can rejoice in Jesus’ sacrifice.

We need to understand true love — We can experience God’s love, from which flows His peace, when we accept our true identity in Christ. Only then can we understand that God loves us no matter where we came from or what we did or who we are. The love of Christ is eternal and, once we become children of God and enter His Kingdom, nothing we do or don’t do can ever change that. The love of Christ will always be available to us, and, as Scripture teaches Jesus will never leave us or forsake us.

Paul teaches us in Romans:

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39.

If we believe that, we will know the peace that Jesus brings.

GUEST BLOGGER

Hi everyone! I am a guest marriage blogger this week on Author, and Pastor, Warren Baldwin’s website. Click here to take you to his site. He published a book titled: Roaring Lions, Cracking Rocks and Other Gems from Proverbs. I just recently bought his book and am already halfway through it. I absolutely love it! It is packed with real-life situations and stories that we all can relate to.

Here is a brief summary of his book:

Roaring Lions, Cracking Rocks, and other Gems from Proverbs brings the ancient proverbs into contemporary focus by applying their truths to modern situations. Marriage, parenting, friendship, work, money, and other topics are brought under the scrutiny of this ancient wisdom. Each chapter in this thought-provoking must-have is a short essay on a specific proverb that makes God’s word come alive with fresh relevance.

If you are interested in the book, click here to take you to his author page. www.warrentbaldwin.com

For those of you who are coming from Warren’s site, I am an author seeking to publish my first book titled: YOU CAN HAVE A HAPPY FAMILY Steps to Enjoying Your Marriage and Children.

Every Monday, I post a new blog on this website sharing the reasons and benefits behind the Truths God has given us in His Word. I just started a series on LOVE as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. The first two weeks were “Love Is PATIENT” and “Love Is KIND.” If you are interested in following this series, join me tomorrow morning with “Love Does Not ENVY.” I share how I used to be completely envious of others…what they looked like…what they had…and what they did. I was never content with just being me. I learned that there is a great reason why God tells us not to envy others…find out why tomorrow.

If you would like to receive emails of updated blogs, click on the subscribe tab below.

Follow me on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook to receive updated blogs and verses that correlate with each week’s lesson.

Thanks for coming to my website!

Blessings:)

Amanda Daubenmeyer
