A Higher Calling

We tend to get so caught up by what’s around us. Media, associates, and even strangers are constantly influencing us. But what happens when we don’t succumb to those influences? We become different and discover that we don’t belong among the rest.

In Jeremiah 1:5 God tells us that He has “set us apart”. He has called us to be unique and different than those surrounding us. If you ever questioned why you don’t belong, why your ideas and thoughts are different than others, and why you never seem to fit in, this is the reason. God has predestined you to a higher calling. He does not want you to be among the lost and be molded by others.

Consider this: imagine that you are a painter. You have an idea for a beautiful painting and start mixing colors, put time and effort into it, but don’t complete it. Because you cherish your artwork, you set it aside from anyone who may destroy it or begin painting on your canvas. With God, it is the same way.  You are His canvas. He loves you so much that He has set you aside so that no one may finish His painting. He has a beautiful vision in mind for you and He wants to be the only person who completes you.

In times that you feel like you don’t belong, don’t worry. Remember that God set apart Moses, who later delivered the Hebrews out of slavery. Recall the time that Noah, who was set apart, was ridiculed as he built the boat that later saved his family from the floods. Read about Joseph, who was so different from his brothers that they sold him into slavery and he later became a king.  Lastly, think about Jesus, who committed no harm, yet was hated by many because God set him apart.

In order to fulfill your calling and be victorious you must walk in the separation God has placed you in. Know that you’re not “weird” or “abnormal” than the rest. You are different because God has placed aside His painting so that in the end, you can be His completed masterpiece.
